Ken Moroney was the NSW Commissioner of Police from 2002 to 2007. He has a remarkable track record of 42 years in the Police Force in metropolitan and rural NSW. Ken has been frequently commended and awarded for his outstanding leadership abilities. With around 20,000 personnel, the NSW Police Force is one of the largest in the world.
Following his retirement from the Police Force in 2007, Ken founded the Nemesis Consultancy Group and has continued to share his expertise and experience in a number of fields.
He chairs a number of boards including the NSW Rural Fire Service Benevolent Fund. Formerly he was the Chair and a Director of the Police Bank, Director of NSW Police Legacy, and is a Member of the Conduct Division of the Judicial Commission of NSW. Recently, he was appointed to the Advisory Committee of the St John of God Hospital, Richmond, NSW which has the mental health care and well-being of first responders as their primary goal. He is a volunteer Youth Counsellor at Youth Off the Streets, Sydney.
Ken has significant experience in the management and leadership during emergency recovery operations in the aftermath of natural disasters. His experience includes:
- Thredbo landslide disaster (1997).
- NSW bushfires (late 2001 – early 2002), and
- Hunter and Central Coast floods (2007).
He also is Patron or Co-Patron of a number of not-for-profit charities including:
- Lifeline Macarthur.
- New Haven Farm Homes for People with a Disability.
- Granville Train Disaster Memorial Committee, and
- Youth Off the Streets – David Koch Centre, Macquarie Fields.
Ken holds a number of tertiary qualifications including:
- Doctor of the University (Honoris Causa) Charles Sturt University.
- Master of Arts (Macquarie University), and
- Diploma of Justice Administration (Charles Sturt University).
He was appointed as an Officer in the Order of Australia and also holds the Australian Police Medal for Distinguished Service, the National Police Medal, the National Medal, the NSW Police Medal for Ethical and Diligent Service and is the holder of three Commissioner’s Commendations for Service.
Ken is also passionate about supporting the mental health and wellbeing of first responders and brings that passion to Beyond The Badge.
