Simon Bradstock

Simon is a former NSW Police Officer who transitioned to a private sector career in 2004.

A combination of practical skills and “lived experiences” developed throughout a seventeen-year Policing career provided important foundational skills that supported Simon’s career transition. 

However, there are many differences in the techniques used by private and not-for-profit sector employers in the recruitment and selection process;  interview questions and process is different to that used by first responder agencies;  and the resume format, structure and content are vetted by hiring managers and recruitment agencies in consideration of language and jargon that is often unfamiliar to members of the first responder community.  

Following a period of coaching and peer support, Simon successfully commenced entry and mid-level management roles in the areas of governance and compliance. 

This quickly led to more Senior roles to the level of General Manager.  Following this, Simon developed his own consultancy and advisory practice which he has led for sixteen years.

A reflection on the challenges faced post transition influenced Simon to develop a formalised coaching program to support first responders who were considering or had left their first responder career and are in the process of identifying a new career opportunity.
